We are Bill and Judy Wren, owners of The Wrens’ Nest, our beautiful mountain top home in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. We live in Jacksonville, Florida but have been vacationing in the NC mountains for many years, always seeking the perfect spot to build our second home. Believe me, we looked EVERYWHERE to find just what we wanted: a very private lot with long range mountain views, unencumbered by roads, wires, or other houses. We also wanted an elevation of at least 4000 feet so it would be cool in the summer and we could enjoy life without air conditioning! At the same time, we did NOT want to drive over bumpy, narrow, winding roads to get to that elevation. We wanted easy access to nearby amenities: golf, restaurants, shopping, theatre, and more. We discovered The Seasons in Maggie Valley quite by accident and knew immediately that Lot 5 was where we wanted to build.
In case you are interested, we are both long retired, although Judy does run a luxury vacation rental business, Wren Beach Rentals, in Ponte Vedra Beach, close to St. Augustine. Her son David Lombana has taken over the management of most of these homes while Judy works with web sites and marketing. In our pre-retirement lives, Bill was an airline pilot, primarily with TWA. Judy was a professor of counseling at the University of North Florida and a private practitioner in Mental Health Counseling.
At first, we did not intend to ever rent out our mountain home so we built it with the amenities that were important to us: walnut floors, top quality appliances, spacious rooms, master suite on the main level, generous decks and porches, double garage, heated bathroom floors, and quality furnishings. But, having been in the vacation rental business for 25+ years, we knew that it is better to have others in your house rather than leaving it empty when you are not there. We also knew that if we have a nice home, we will attract nice people. And that is exactly what has happened. We now spend most of the summer and fall in our Maggie Valley home, but we do rent it here and there as we travel or return to Florida to check on things and see our family. We hope you will enjoy the Wrens’ Nest as much as we do!
